John R. Glenn III Departed Sept. 1st, 2009
It is with great sorrow that the Brothers of Aaron Lodge #49 say goodbye to fallen Brother John R. Glenn III. Brother John, 66, died on September 1, 2009. He was born on July 8, 1943 in Sparta, Wisconsin, to John R. Glenn, Jr., and Isabel M. Campbell Glenn and spent his early years in Detroit, Michigan. His father died when John was 12, and the family moved to Douglas, Arizona, where John lived for many years.

During his retirement, John was an active member of the Cactus amateur radio (ham) group and worked as a radio operator for the United States Forest Service during several major forest fires. He was a Mason and was a long standing member of Aaron Lodge #49. John had recently installed as Worthy Patron of Saguaro Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. John is survived by his beloved wife, Susan, whom he married on May 23, 1998.

He is also survived by a son, John R. Glenn IV of Tucson; a daughter, Sandy (Scott) Lobring of New Baltimore, Michigan; a stepson, Ben (Ally) Finelsen of Sewell, New Jersey and four grandchildren, Cody Stram, Brenden Lobring, Kaiti Lobring and Tanner Lobring. John is also survived by three brothers, Bob (Eden) Glenn, Bill (Luly) Glenn and Grover (Cherie) Glenn and two sisters, Margie (David) Melillo of Tucson and Nancy (Ron) Smith of Crestwood, Kentucky. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. His parents preceded him in death. A Funeral Service was held on Friday, September 4, 2009 with military honors. Many of John’s family, friends, Sisters and Brothers were there to celebrate the next phase of his life.

John you will be missed but be assured your Brothers of Aaron Lodge will continue on guided by the example you had left before them, and we your Brothers of Aaron Lodge #49 take great comfort in knowing that now as you are standing before the Great White Throne you shall here the welcome words:

“Well done good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."

Allen Latham P.M. 1986 Departed July 6th 2009
Allen S. Latham P.M. 1986
Allen S. Latham P.M. 1986
The Brothers of Aaron Lodge #49 with great sorrow announce the passing of Brother Allen Latham P.M. on July 6th 2009. Allen’s life revolved around masonry and he never missed a meeting. He enjoyed sharing his expertise of the Masonic Ritual for he believed that if it is worth doing then it is always worth doing it right.

Allen was born in Birmingham Michigan February 3rd 1937. His family moved from Michigan to Tucson in 1957. Allen was a Veteran having served in the Army. After the Army Allen worked several different jobs throughout his life, at one time working for the U of A Astronomy department with the computer systems associated with one of their telescopes. At the time of his retirement brought on after suffering 2 strokes Allen was working as a cook for a local establishment.

Allen followed in his father’s footsteps on the path of Masonry. He was Master of Aaron Lodge #49 in 1986 just 10 years after his father Harold Latham P.M. served as Master of Aaron Lodge #49 in 1976. Here is a quote from the current Worshipful Master of Aaron Lodge Roy Otterholt:

“Before I got into the line, I would sit with Allen in lodge, right next to him, and purposely make conversation with him just to try and find out what Allen was all about. Even after I began my trip to the east, I would frequently make small talk with him, even more so if he was being testy. I learned a few things about Allen by doing this and found him to be a little different than his outward appearances alluded. He never spoke of his year as master to me, but as you probably know, was always generous with advice regarding lodge operations. I believe Aaron was very important to Allen and he will certainly be missed

Treasurer Brian Johnson P.M. adds his special rememberances of Allen:

"Several years ago, as Senior Warden and in charge of Degree Work, I was forced, by lack of anyone else stepping up to the plate, to fill the position of King Solomon in the 3rd Degree Ritual. I was grateful for Allen's help knowing the position as he had been Hiram, King of Tyre for so many years. Many Brothers who have been Raised in Aaron Lodge will remember most that moment when they are Raised. Participating in the Raising of new Brothers has been the most gratifying experiences of my Masonic Life. Almost all of those were partnering with Brother Allen. God Bless Allen, Rest n Peace."

Allen enjoyed participating in the Degree Ritual and one of his favorite parts was King Hiram of Tyre. Allen would play this part to the best of his abilities and he worked very hard at not letting the strokes he had suffered interfere with his performance. Allen was a private person and his Masonic life consumed a great part of that life.

Allen had been married once long ago but had no children. He is survived by his sisters Marlene Moldenhauer, Alice Ellis and brother Harold Latham. Of course Allen is survived by all his Masonic Brothers of Aaron Lodge who are all proud to say that he was one of us.

Although we regret his passing we all take great satisfaction in the fact that we know Allen is at peace with the Great Architect and is probably giving him some advice on how to run the universe.

Due to his Veteran status Allen will be interred at the National Cemetery in Sierra Vista Arizona for his service to the country.
